I am the only candidate with a combination of current experience on, and a working relationship
with, the Spokane City Council. Unlike my opponents, I have spent four years working with
and for employees of this great City. I can "hit the deck running!"
I have no further political ambitions. My children have graduated from college, and I
have the time to devote full service as your representative on the Spokane City Council.
To the business person: I have run my own business. I have met payrolls.
I have been the CEO of four different corporations in my professional life. I have been
a member of the Gonzaga University School of Business faculty, an Adjunct Assistant
Professor/Lecturer, since 1981. I will create jobs for Spokane!
To the union member: I have been a strong supporter of the right of workers
to organize and held union membership, myself. For twenty years, working with John Leinen, I helped to
write and edited the Labor council's Labor World. I will protect worker's rights!
To the community volunteer: I have served as President or as the
Chairman of the Board of fourteen non-profit groups - from Cancer Patient Care to the Youth Employment
Service to a national foundation for the prevention of child abuse. I was named United Way's Washington
State Volunteer of the Year in 1991, received Exchange's Golden Deeds lifetime community
achievement award, and was recognized as one of KPBX Public Radio's Volunteer of the Year
recipients. I will care about the needs of those who are less fortunate!
To the artist: I was a founding commissioner of the Spokane Art's Commission, leading
legislative efforts for its formation in the '70s. I was President of Allied Arts of Spokane, and in
1977 I was named Arts Person of the Year. I have believed in and supported the arts all my life.
I will continue to improve quality of life!
To every citizen: I will use my experience as a member of the Parks Board, the Airport Board, the
Regional Health Board, the Council on Aging and Long Term care, and as the council's representative
to the Neighborhood Councils/Community Assembly, to make this City more efficient in serving your needs!
